Jacksonville Sports

Jacksonville is the thirteenth most populous city in the state of Florida in the United States. Jacksonville is also a home to a variety of professional sports teams, including the Jacksonville Jaguars of the National Football League. The Jacksonville Dixie Blues is the Women's Football League team. Jacksonville is a city with an array of championship events.   • Jacksonville Jaguars

    A professional American football team, Jacksonville Jaguars is based in Jacksonville, Florida. The team was founded in 1995 and currently is a member of the South Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League. Like the Houston Texans and the New Orleans Saints, Jacksonville Jaguars is also one of the three teams, never got the chance to play in either a Super Bowl or any other NFL Championship.

    In 1995, the Jacksonville Jaguars along with the Carolina Panthers entered the NFL as the first expansion teams in almost 20 years. The team finished their first season with a record of 4-12. During their second season the Jaguars won six of their last seven games and finished with a record of 9-7. The team had their first playoff game against the Buffalo Bills where the Jaguars won with 30-27. In 1997, the team finished with a record of 11-5.

    After winning the AFC Central Division in 1998, the Jaguars became the first NFL expansion team that make the playoffs three times in its first four seasons of play. The team finished the 2005 season with 28-3 record. Jack Del Rio is the current head coach of the team. Since 1995, the team has won two division championships one is in 1998 and other is in 1999. The team wears uniforms of colors: teal, black, and gold.

  • Jacksonville Barracudas
    A professional ice hockey league team, Jacksonville Barracudas is based in Jacksonville, Florida. The team was founded in 2002 and play at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. During their first season the team played at Jacksonville Coliseum in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League. In 2003, the team moved to Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.

    After Ron Duguay, Rick Allain is appointed as the head coach of the team in 2006. Along with arena the team also changed the league and the World Hockey Association 2 (WHA2) was formed. The Barracudas won both the regular season title and the league championship of the WHA2. In 2004, the Barracudas won their second consecutive game that was against the Macon Trax.

    When the WHA2 was disbanded in 2004, the Jacksonville Barracudas joined the Southern Professional Hockey League for their next season i.e. 2004-05. The Jacksonville Barracudas finished the 2005-06 season in the bottom of the SPHL standings. The team wears uniforms of colors: red, white, blue.

  • Jacksonville Suns
    A minor league baseball team, Jacksonville Suns is based in Jacksonville, Florida. The team was founded in 1962 and currently is a member of the Southern League. Jacksonville owns the SL record for most playoff appearances but still failed to capture a Southern League Championship.

    In 1991, the Suns signed a four-year agreement with the Seattle Mariners that is a major league baseball team in Seatle. During this period the team finished over .500 only once. After 1994 season the Seattle left for Wilmington and the team signed a six-year agreement with the Detroit Tigers. In 1996 the team won the Southern League Championship. In 1998, the team won its third title. In 2000, the Suns signed a four-year agreement with the the Los Angeles Dodgers after Detroit Tigers left for Erie, Pa.

    In 2001 season, the Suns advanced to the finals but because of the September 11, 2001 attacks, the games was cancelled by Southern League and as a result the Suns and the Huntsville Stars were declered as co-champions. In 2005, Southern League Championship was won by the Jacksonville Suns. The team plays at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville and wears uniforms of colors:  blue, yellow, red.

  • Jacksonville JAM
    An American professional basketball team, Jacksonville JAM is based in Jacksonville, Florida. The team was founded in 2006 and currently is a member of the American Basketball Association (ABA). Cuently the team play their home games at the University of North Florida but have decided to shift to the Veterans Memorial Arena for the 2008-2009 season.

    Jacksonville City

    The inaugural season of the Jacksonville JAM seems to be a great success for the team. The Team has won one division title. Steve Tucker is the current head coach of the team. Being #2 ranked team in the ABA playoffs the JAM will have the chance to host games in the Single Elimination Bracket Tournament. The team wears uniforms of colors: red, teal and back.
